Electrician hookup for rental generators

Do not plug a generator into a wall outlet. An electrician connects it to your building or site correctly, with the right equipment, so power goes where it should and nowhere else.

What the hookup includes

Connection to the building or panel

The generator is connected through the proper arrangement for your site, not through a back-fed outlet.

Cables and distribution

Heavy-duty cables and distribution panels bring power to the areas that need it.

Safe start-up

The electrician checks the connection before the generator takes load.

Why a hookup should not be improvised

Feeding power back into a building through a normal outlet can send electricity out to the utility lines and injure line workers. It can also overload wiring. Read more in connecting a generator to your home.

Some temporary connections need a permit, notification or inspection under your province's electrical safety rules. Give us your site address and what the generator will feed, and we plan around those requirements. You will see the electrician's time as its own line in the quote.

Hookup questions

Do I need an electrician if I only run a few tools?

For equipment plugged straight into the generator's own outlets, usually no. You need one when the generator feeds a building, a panel or a fixed installation.
